Why Dolls?
Fabric dolls have a long and interesting history. Although relatively few survive from before the 19th Century, it is clear that since the ancient world societies have used dolls to comfort and teach skills to children. A 1st Century Egyptian linen and papyrus doll, for example, is currently held by the British Museum.
More recent interest in fabric dolls reflects contemporary impulses for connection with traditional craftsmanship as well as a desire for unique toys made of sustainable materials in the face of industrial mass production.
More than just a toy, Elisha hopes her creations will help children to stimulate their creativity, think imaginatively, explore new roles, and interact with others.
